"It was exciting because all the neurologists saw the transformation right before our eyes. This device has the potential to spare patients from taking medication {for tremors} which can be costly and have side effects. Some patients with tremor see great results with Deep Brain Stimulation, but this hand orthotic could keep individuals from having brain surgery. As an Occupational Therapist (OT) with 24 years of experience in outpatient neurological rehabilitation, I have had difficulty finding functional solutions for my clients with Essential Tremor (ET). I began using the Readi-Steadi® orthotic system about 1 year ago and it has done more for my clients than any other treatment modality I have used in the past. As a result of this success, my clients with ET now make up nearly 40% of my caseload. I have had clients tell me that they were able to feed themselves without spilling for the first time in 10 years, were pleased to finally be able to hold a newspaper and read it (not just look at the pictures), and that they were able to return to putting on some makeup. My purpose as an OT is to help people achieve greater independence in everyday tasks and feel like themselves again, and the Readi-Steadi® orthotic allows me to do that for my clients with ET better than other traditional OT tools. |
